With each passing day, the route on our way to school each morning includes more pumpkins, oversized spiders, and fanciful witches dancing on tree limbs and dangling from front porch banisters. It’s as if they’re taunting me, reminding me that I haven’t yet pulled together the girls’ Halloween costumes for this year! As I carefully considered the ever changing costume requests, it got me thinking about the possibility of using what we have rather than filling up a digital shopping cart and waiting for a package of things that will only be worn for a night. It’s time for a change, so this year Halloween costumes will start with pieces that the kids can continue to wear for the whole season and beyond rather than something made of synthetic fibers and intended for the short lifespan of one night of trick or treating.
The cuteness of a costumed cowboy made by pairing the Japanese denim western shirt
tucked into the Japanese denim every day pant
with a stick horse, cowboy hat, and boots was almost more than I could handle.
But this minion? Now, this is a total kid crowd pleaser and finally won out which is fine by me. Character costumes literally do not get any cuter than this sweet look!
As we near the big night with each passing day, I find myself eagerly anticipating the seas of costumed children with an inordinate amount of sugar coursing through their veins and feel less concerned with the task list that seems to accompany it…(don’t forget to ice those cupcakes for the preschool!) So much of fall is centered around community—coming together with friends and family over delicious food, being outside with the neighbors even as the days begin to get shorter—and perhaps that’s why this season resonates with us so much. Hey Gang was created with the idea of inclusive community and that is the reason that we give back a portion of every chain stitch customization to public schools.
We would love for you to drop us a note over on Instagram
